Tanzania day 1

KLM from Amsterdam.

Precision Air from Kenya to Kilimanjaro Airport, Tanzania.

A glimpse of the majestetic Kilimanjaro.

An adorable welcoming comittee.

A total of 21 hours and 3 flights, but now we've finally reached the heart of Tanzania at the foot of the majestetic Kilimanjaro. It's at the end of the rainy season — everything is lush and green, with loads of colourful flowers. Too bad we only bought a telezoom and not a macro lense as well!

This is my first time travelling with a company for the entire trip and with a set schedule. But we quickly discovered that it wasn't more expensive than doing everything by yourself. A trip here is expensive anyhow — unless you skip the safari. And what would a trip here without that be? Also, insecure when booking about how my body would be at this time (luckily jr. isn't making too much of a fuzz in my belly), it felt nice not to have to worry about anything here.

Yohannes Ngomi running Makasa picked us up at the airport, and took us for a surprisingly good chinese lunch with his wife Selma and their daughter (all the hormones in my body have given me a sudden affection for kids, but it's not just that — their girl was a truly sweet and charming 7 month old).

We've slept all afternoon, much needed after flying all night. Woke up for dinner, and now we're ready for some more sleep. Our first night here is spent at the nice Kilimanjaro Lodge at the outskirts of Moshi. The lodge is part of a foundation running a secondary school for young girls, and by staying here you not only support them financially but also help on their education in tourism as they practice here. And their service and helpfulness is excellent!
